When people say that they should not have to be ‘told’ to pray – we should learn to distinguish between ‘obligatory’ prayers vs personal prayers. A poor yet somewhat good analogy would be that of a mother asking her son or daughter to call her once a week when away from home at University. In an obligatory way the son/daughter would call once a week as the mother asked – yet additionally call other times during the week of her/his own accord out of love/concern or just to unload/share worries.
